SKI STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDERS Waterford United's Carson Hunter races to victory at Pine Knob on Jan. 16. Clarkston --  Class A boys state championship contender Waterford United stayed undefeated on the season with dual-meet wins over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood 44-29 and Rochester 49-26 at the Southeastern Michigan Ski League meet Jan. 15-16 at Pine Know Ski Resort. Waterford finished a close third in Class A in the state last year behind Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice and Marquette. Waterford also won the Oakland Activities Association Division 2 crown and finished second to Brother Rice at regionals last year. Waterford Head Coach Rick Schoonover feels his team will be in contention for the title again this season. "Our goal is the championship," said Schoonover. "All of the top teams each lost two skiers to graduation. It could be a dogfight this year. But it is way too early to say. We have a very strong team and we're just trying to have a lot of fun." Individually, Waterford's Carson Hunter won both the slalom (43.59) and the giant slalom (32.43). Pontiac Notre Dame Prep's Kyle Powers was second in the slalom at 45.23. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood's Robert Aikens was second in the giant slalom at 32.43. On the girls side, Clarkston and Lake Orion both won each of their dual meets (complete results are below). Clarkston's Hannah Wolf won the slalom in 45.54 and was second in the giant slalom (34.24) to teammate Maddy Dunn (34.23). Clarkston's Erica Halsey was second in the slalom in 48.67.
