Detroit News -- Detroit Pershing first-year coach Shawn Hill felt his team was fortunate to come out with a victory in the PSL semifinals against Detroit King. Petoskey News Review -- Kerby Tamm scored scored six of her game-high 23 points in overtime, leading Petoskey to a 54-51 victory over Manistee Tuesday in a Class B girls' basketball regional semifinal at Grayling High School.

The Northmen, 22-1, will play either Kingsford, 17-5, or Tawas, 19-3, for the regional title 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, at Grayling. Kingsford and Tawas were to meet in Wednesday's second semifinal.

Petoskey, ranked fifth in the Associated Press Class B state poll, is vying for its first regional title since 1999.

Bernadette LeBlanc and Holly Laser added nine points apiece for Petoskey.

Port Huron Times Herald -- The last time the Marine City girls basketball team advanced to a regional final, Rocky was the No.1 movie in theaters and Jimmy Carter was running for president.

That was 34 years ago.

The Mariners broke the ominous streak Tuesday by defeating Warren Lincoln 47-41 at Mt. Clemens High School in a Class B regional semifinal.

Marine City (17-6) advances to the finals to face Detroit Country Day on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mount Clemens.

"It's a heck of an accomplishment for these girls," Marine City Coach Heath Kent said. "Coming off of losing everybody from last year, many people didn't have high expectations.
